goldilocks and the three bears script

This script reimagines the classic fairy tale, "Goldilocks and the Three Bears," for modern audiences while staying true to the beloved story's heart. It's designed to be adaptable for stage productions, film, or even a captivating read-aloud experience.

Characters:

  • Papa Bear: A large, jovial bear with a booming voice.
  • Mama Bear: A kind, gentle bear, practical and caring.
  • Baby Bear: A playful, curious bear, prone to mischief.
  • Goldilocks: A curious and adventurous young girl with a mischievous streak.

Setting:

The cozy, cluttered interior of the Three Bears' woodland cottage.

Scene 1: The Bears' Breakfast

(The stage opens on the Three Bears' kitchen. Papa Bear, Mama Bear, and Baby Bear are seated around a table laden with porridge bowls. A variety of toys are scattered around.)

Papa Bear: (Gruffly) My porridge is too hot!

Mama Bear: (Calmly) Mine is too cold.

Baby Bear: (Whining) And mine… mine is just right! But I'm not finished yet! I need to go play with my teddy!

(Baby Bear grabs a teddy bear and runs off stage. Papa Bear and Mama Bear sigh, finishing their porridge and tidying up. They exit, leaving the bowls on the table.)

Scene 2: Goldilocks' Arrival

(Goldilocks enters, cautiously peering around. She's dressed in slightly ragged clothing, indicating a sense of adventure and possibly even a touch of desperation.)

Goldilocks: (Whispering) A house… all alone… I wonder…

(She approaches the table, eyeing the porridge bowls. She cautiously lifts a spoon and tries Papa Bear's porridge.)

Goldilocks: Too hot!

(She tries Mama Bear's porridge.)

Goldilocks: Too cold!

(She tries Baby Bear's porridge. Her eyes widen.)

Goldilocks: Just right! Mmm!

(She devours Baby Bear's porridge in a few large spoonfuls.)

Scene 3: The Chairs

(Goldilocks moves to a set of three chairs. She sits in Papa Bear's sturdy chair.)

Goldilocks: Too hard!

(She tries Mama Bear's comfortable chair.)

Goldilocks: Too soft!

(She sits in Baby Bear's small chair. The chair breaks under her weight.)

Goldilocks: Oops!

(Goldilocks laughs nervously.)

Scene 4: The Bedroom

(Goldilocks enters the Three Bears' bedroom. She sees three beds. She tries Papa Bear's large bed.)

Goldilocks: Too hard!

(She tries Mama Bear's medium-sized bed.)

Goldilocks: Too soft!

(She climbs into Baby Bear's small bed. She curls up and falls fast asleep.)

Scene 5: The Bears Return

(The Three Bears re-enter the cottage. They notice the mess immediately.)

Papa Bear: My porridge!

Mama Bear: And my chair!

Baby Bear: (Sobbing) And my porridge! And my chair! And… and… my bed!

(They find Goldilocks asleep in Baby Bear's bed. They are initially shocked and angry, but Mama Bear intercedes.)

Mama Bear: She's just a little girl, tired and hungry. Let's wake her gently and send her home.

(Mama Bear gently wakes Goldilocks. Goldilocks, startled and ashamed, apologizes profusely. The Bears, though initially upset, show compassion and kindness. Goldilocks promises never to trespass again and scurries home.)

Scene 6: Resolution

(The Three Bears clean up their cottage, a sense of calm and understanding settling over them. They learn a valuable lesson about the importance of respecting others' property and possessions. The scene ends with the bears happily cuddling, the incident seemingly forgotten, though a slightly stronger chair might be a good idea for next time!)
